Hynes plan 'pains' rivals

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes' rivals pounced on him yesterday for saying he plans to make it "very painful" on his competitors in his reelection battle.
"It was a totally inappropriate comment by District Attorney Hynes," said former Koch administration official Arnold Kriss, a potential challenger to Hynes in the Democratic primary. "This is a Democratic primary, where ideas and issues should prevail."

Sandra Roper, a longtime critic of Hynes who gave him a political scare by snaring 37% of the vote when she ran against him in 2001 and declared her new campaign against him yesterday, said, "It sounds like the wild, wild West. This [campaign] ... should be about issues."
