Maurice Gumbs is a total idiot, and I am not afraid to say it. I'm not willing to call him crazy (for fear of a libel suit), but I would not be surprised if he was. The man is obsessed with Brooklyn Politics, and on several fronts he may be correct, but what he said about the Knipels certainly is not. Just because Judge Knipel's wife is friends with Norman, or even if the Judge himself was friends with Norman, does not mean anythng. Knipel has been on the bench 15 years and has nothing but a good reccord, yet all of a sudden he's partisan. The only reason this is an issue is because the last Surrogate was a bigger fool than Gumbs. That judge gave jobs to people he liked, Knipel never did that. Most judges never did that. Truth is, that out of all of the candidates Torrez was probably the worst bet, yet Gumbs endorse her. It is one thing to say Knipel is close with the Brooklyn political elite? So what? Prove Knipel evel let his or his wife's friendships influence him on the bench? On the other hand, Torrez's "independance" is not just idependance from politics, but apparently from law as well. Has anyone bothered to look up her reversal rate? Its okay, Knipel will still serve Brooklyn, but I honestly do not think that there was a better person for the job of Surogate than him. I dont know what Gumb's personal adgenda is? I'd like t hope that it is a dislike of Norman, but its clear that his real issue is with the Knipels. In my eyes, his mudslinging has destroyed any little credibility that he had with me.
